1 John 5:14-15 (ESV)
14 And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.
A few months ago, I taught a message during a monthly Leadership Meeting. I started off with a few things I have been working through in my private life and journal. I told them that I was showing them the “ultra-sound” of what God is birthing in me. I told them questions that I had that God didn’t give the answers for because God was still working it out. The audience nervously laughed because it was so abnormal to present a problem/question without a resolution. I laid it out, and then began to teach on a completely different topic. I did this intentionally for two main reasons:
-I wanted to give the church an opportunity to help carry some of the burdens that the pastors carry because this is “our” church.
-I wanted to show them that pastors don’t always hear from God in less than 90 seconds after we pray!
So… with that being said, I have some things that I have been praying for that are completely different from the ways I prayed for them in the past. You want to hear it, here it goes
1. “God, I don’t want You to get rid of this pain, I want You to use it!”
2. “God, I don’t need a ‘call’ right now, when You have already given me a command.”
3. “God, if I am not being a ‘missionary’, I am just being an impostor… And I am sorry.”
These are my prayers. I have begun to pray these things out of reading His Word and spending time with Him. I think it’s awesome to share your journey because that is what makes the Kingdom of God approachable. If these help you change your prayers or rethink them… then AMEN!
