– Betrayal

Luke 22:47-48 says,”While he was still speaking, there came a crowd, and the man called Judas, one of the twelve, was leading them. He drew near to Jesus to kiss him, but Jesus said to him, “Judas, would you betray the Son of Man with a kiss?””

Judas not only became one of the most despised characters in history when he betrayed Jesus; he also became a haunting reminder to every Christian that there have been times they have fallen to a temptation to sin. For the Christian, stumbling in sin is like betraying the One who gave His life for us. How much greater is that betrayal when the sin is a chosen behavior, deliberately turning away from spiritual conviction? As believers, we are told to “examine ourselves” to see if we are truly in the faith (2 Corinthians 13:5).

During this song, hold the bag of coins in your hand. Feel the weight of what sin brings. Judas betrayed Jesus for 30 coins. That’s how many coins are in this bag. Realize that the love of God is more valuable that what we can earn through our desires. But also, realize this. Jesus still lets Judas be around Him and even kiss Him. Ask Jesus for forgiveness. Confess not only your sin but what you hoped to get out of it. Drop the bag of coins on the plate, sing to Jesus, and realize how He loves you.
