Ephesians 5:25-26 ESV
Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word
“I love you enough to tell you…” Have you ever heard someone start a sentence like this? Chances are you braced yourself for them to point out something that they felt you needed to change. While we’re not always excited to hear it, if the person is being sincere, they’re giving their advice to help us consider improving in an area where we might not even know we need it.
Ephesians 5:26 tells us just how much God loves the church — enough to sanctify and cleanse her. It’s a love that cares for us enough to want to unite us to Christ and progressively make us more and more like Him. God loves us enough to want the best for us.
If you’re struggling to fully accept God’s love for you, remember that He knows we’re all works in progress. His love brought us from death to life by giving Christ for the church and scripture tells us that He will carry on the good work He began in us to completion!
