MEETUP WEEK #2 Format: TESTIMONY & SHARING

TRIAL, TRUTH, TRIUMPH

SPECIAL REMINDER

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day (Monday, January 15, 2018)

This week we celebrate Reverend Martin Luther King. Jr.’s birthday and legacy. Let us remember all that he has contributed to the discussion of race, unity, and justice, especially through the lenses of loving Jesus. Below are two quotes to help remember and reflect on his legacy. You will be given the opportunity to reflect on these during the “Start the Conversation – Questions” below.

“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.”

—From ‘Letter from Birmingham, Alabama Jail’, April 16, 1963

“The time is always right to do what is right.”

—From Oberlin College Commencement speech, 1965

TODAY’S MAIN IDEA: Live in the POWER of your salvation by being self-aware, celebrating Jesus, and living in community. It’s His POWER, but our RESPONSIBILITY to live it out.

START THE CONVERSATION – QUESTIONS:

Take a few moments to reflect on the above Martin Luther King, Jr. quotes. In what ways has his message impacted you?

Describe the first person that introduced you to the concept of salvation? Was it recently, or was it a long time ago? Do you still have questions about what salvation means, if so, please share with the group for further clarification?

TESTIMONY TIME – SHARE THREE MINUTES

We ask that you share no longer than 3 Minutes, in order for all group members to have a chance to share. Everyone may not get a chance to share this month, but if that is the case, your DC leader will be sure to start with you next month. (You may want to have a timekeeper – use your phone and gently remind or guide those who share when the time is up.)

SHARE THREE ELEMENTS:

  • TRIAL

What happened – why you are going through this challenge, the cause, and the background? PLEASE BE CONCISE.

  • TRUTH

Where did you meet God in this experience – how did God influence and touch you in this circumstance.

  • TRIUMPH

How did it end? Please share the positive outcome of how God brought blessing or victory in this particular scenario.

This week’s Testimony FOCUS:

  • POWER of SALVATION

How are you living in the power of your salvation? Does your salvation empower you or not? In any way have you lost the joy of your salvation?

THIS WEEK’s SERMON CONTEXT  FOR TESTIMONY & SHARING TIME

BIBLE READING:

Please Read ROMANS 1:8 – 17 (ESV),

First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is proclaimed in the entire world. For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I mention you 10 always in my prayers, asking that somehow by God’s will I may now at last succeed in coming to you.11 For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you— 12 that is, that we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine. 13 I do not want you to be unaware, brothers, that I have often intended to come to you (but thus far have been prevented), in order that I may reap some harvest among you as well as among the rest of the Gentiles. 14 I am under obligation both to Greeks and to barbarians, both to the wise and to the foolish. 15 So I am eager to preach the gospel to you also who are in Rome.

16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.”

What parts of the scripture passage stood out to you? What part is the most encouraging? What part is the most challenging? What does this passage tell us about “POWER”?

Definition of GOSPEL = That since our efforts alone can not restore us to God, His love sent His son to pay for sins, so that by faith alone, we can have relationship with him.

ROMANS 8:9 (ESV)

You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him.

PHILIPPIANS 2:12 (ESV)

12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling,

How do we tap into that Power?

1.) Remove SELF-SUFFICIENCY (His Love endures forever)

How do you know you have self-sufficiency

A. PROVE Yourself

B. PROTECT Yourself

C. PROMOTE Yourself

PSALM 136:1 – 18 (ESV)

2.) Remove SILENCE (Keep Celebrating)

3.) Remove SOLITUDE (Live in Community)
