POWER Series – Part #4: To Move Mountains
MEETUP WEEK #4 Format:
Hangout & Missional Event
START THE CONVERSATION – QUESTIONS:
Tonight’s DC is designed to be a night that your group hangs out and focuses on getting to know one another better. In addition, your group has the opportunity to invite others to join your group. You may take this opportunity to go out to do a social event, host a game night, or even have a movie night.
Included this week are some questions to help start the conversation, if you don’t already have a focus or activity. In addition, there is a review of the sermon along with some additional questions to consider:
- Have you ever visited a mountain? Where was it? Describe your experience, including the things you liked and enjoy, as well as those things you might not have cared for as much.
- Have you ever planted a seed (in school or for a garden). Describe the process, especially about the size of the seed, and if it grew, what were the elements that helped it grow? Did the seed produce more than you started with? (My hope is that we have some green thumbs out there!!)
THIS WEEK’s SERMON CONTEXT
TODAY’S MAIN IDEA: Little Faith in a BIG God can still produce amazing things. It’s His POWER, but our RESPONSIBILITY to live it out.
Please READ Matthew 17:14-20 (ESV)
Jesus Heals a Boy with a Demon
14 And when they came to the crowd, a man came up to him and, kneeling before him,15 said, “Lord, have mercy on my son, for he has seizures and he suffers terribly. For often he falls into the fire, and often into the water. 16 And I brought him to your disciples, and they could not heal him.” 17 And Jesus answered, “O faithless and twisted generation, how long am I to be with you? How long am I to bear with you? Bring him here to me.” 18 And Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him, and the boy was healed instantly, 19 Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?” 20 He said to them, “Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.”
Matthew 8:26 English Standard Version (ESV)
26 And he said to them, “Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?” Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm.
What parts of the scripture passage stood out to you? What part is the most encouraging? What part is the most challenging? What does this passage tell us about “POWER”?
Q: How many of us have moved mountains?
* Little faith in a big God can still produce amazing thing.
How do we tap into that Power?
1.) Faith EMPOWERS
* Holy Spirit: Help them find their mustard seed!!
* Talk to the mustard seed in you!!
2.) Faith is POTENT regardless of size
Q: What do you believe God can do? What has God already done?
Failure taught the Disciples…
A. NOT to get in a RUT of mechanical Ministry
B. RELY on the PRESENCE of Jesus
C. To COME to Jesus with the Problem
3.) Faith comes by HEARING & Speaking
ROMANS 10:17 (ESV)
17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.
*LET FAITH SPEAK TO THE MOUNTAIN – Don’t let religion talk/complain about the mountain (The problem/ challenge).
