John 15:5 ESV

I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing

As a Giants fan, it wasn’t an easy decision to post this picture.  But to be honest there are some things I actually admire about this Eagles team getting ready to play in the Super Bowl.  Just making it this far without their starting quarterback is an accomplishment in itself.  And their “underdog” theme this postseason has kept them from falling into one of the biggest traps in sports (and in life)…overconfidence.

While there’s nothing wrong with placing our trust in our connection to God’s power through Jesus, overconfidence in our own abilities will always end in disappointment sooner or later.  The more we believe we are able to do without God, the less we’ll rely on Him.  Over time we’ll either experience a major wake up call when we fail — or we’ll slowly begin to limit ourselves to what we can handle on our own, never stepping out in faith and trusting in His limitless power.

I believe gratitude is one of the best ways to keep our focus where it belongs.  Take some time every day to give thanks to God for at least one victory, no matter how small.  Over time, it will strengthen your faith to take on bigger challenges.  Apart from Him we can do nothing, but with God all things are possible!
