POWER Series –

POWER…From the Gifts of the Spirit

MEETUP WEEK #2 Format: TESTIMONY & SHARING

TRIAL, TRUTH, TRIUMPH

TODAY’S MAIN IDEA: God gives spiritual gifts, without any conditions, for the profit of all. It’s His POWER, but our RESPONSIBILITY to live it out.

START THE CONVERSATION – QUESTIONS:

Describe the best gift you have ever received? What made it the best? Describe the moment you received the gift and realized what it was.

Describe a time when your walk with God became stale or routine? Are you experiencing it right now? Has worship time, scripture, or preaching become routine?

TESTIMONY TIME – SHARE THREE MINUTES

We ask that you share no longer than 3 Minutes, in order for all group members to have a chance to share. Everyone may not get a chance to share this month, but if that is the case, your DC leader will be sure to start with you next month. (You may want to have a timekeeper – use your phone and gently remind or guide those who share when the time is up.)

SHARE THREE ELEMENTS:

  • TRIAL

What happened – why you are going through this challenge, the cause, and the background? PLEASE BE CONCISE.

  • TRUTH

Where did you meet God in this experience – how did God influence and touch you in this circumstance.

  • TRIUMPH

How did it end? Please share the positive outcome of how God.

This week’s Testimony FOCUS:

Power of The Gifts of the Spirit

In 1 Corinthians 12, it lists nine specific gifts of the spirit. From the list, do you recognize any of the gifting in your life? For this week’s testimony time, focus on and reflect how God has used that spiritual gift in your life, whether to help or serve others, or an example of how it assisted you in a challenge. Describe the challenge, what you learned, and how it produced a positive outcome.

ACTION ITEMS:

1.) If you are newer to faith or have yet to take the time to examine the gifts of the spirit, take time this week to further examine and discover your spiritual gifts. Review the gifts in the link below to better identify them in your life (the list is expanded from 1 Corinthians 12, but still rooted in scripture) and also take an actual on-line survey to help you better know your Gifting.

Take this online test, to help identify your specific Spiritual Gifts. This is a link to Spiritual Gifts Survey:

2.) Write down your spiritual gifts – whether in a journal, your notebook, or even the front inside cover of your bible – so that you can continue to remind yourself of how God has gifted you. Let God’s gifting become part of your spiritual identity!!

THIS WEEK’s SERMON CONTEXT

FOR TESTIMONY & SHARING TIME

BIBLE READING:

Please Read 1 Corinthians 12  (NKJV)

Spiritual Gifts: Unity in Diversity

12 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant: You know that you were Gentiles, carried away to these dumb idols, however you were led. Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit.

There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, 10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. 11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.

What parts of the scripture passage stood out to you? What part is the most encouraging? What part is the most challenging? What does this passage tell us about “POWER”?

List of the GIFTS of the SPIRIT from 1 Corinthians:

Word of Knowledge (Spiritual Knowledge)

Word of Wisdom (Applied Knowledge)

The Gift of Prophecy (Interpret movements of God)

The Gift of Faith (Unshakable Confidence)

Gifts of Healing (Physical Power to Heal)

Working of Miracles

Discerning of Spirits (‘Gut’ to know when something is off)

Divers (or different) kinds of Tongues (Utterance of God)

Interpretation of (different) Tongues (Knowing and understanding those utterances)

GIFT (Not Earned, Unconditionally) vs. REWARD (Earned, a wage)

  • Spoiled people think all items are gifts.

  • If you put a condition on a gift, it is no longer a gift.

  • If you don’t know how to love others, spiritual gifts are useless.

  • GOAL for Church: Usher in the Presence of God in such a way that preaching and worship time isn’t necessary to experience God.

Please Read 1 Timothy 4:14 (NKJV)

14 Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy with the laying on of the hands of the eldership.

1.) It’s not about YOU – Boo – Boo!!

Spiritual Gifts are not a result of human efforts.

2.) This doesn’t PROVE anything

Gifting not the equivalent of maturity

3.) It’s about Jesus, but its for us

Gifts are for the church and are also to be under leadership and authority
