Acts 16:7-9 ESV
And when they had come up to Mysia, they attempted to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them. So, passing by Mysia, they went down to Troas. And a vision appeared to Paul in the night: a man of Macedonia was standing there, urging him and saying, “Come over to Macedonia and help us.”
The Apostle Paul had no idea the implications that following the leading of the Spirit to Macedonia would have. Over the course of his journey, he planted churches throughout the region and it’s entirely possible that his one act of obedience eventually resulted in the spreading of the Gospel throughout Europe and the western world.
Have you ever had plans to go one way but God ended up taking you in a completely different direction? If we’re honest, it can sometimes make us feel as though we’ve failed in what we originally attempted to accomplish. Often we don’t see the chain of events that one moment of obedience set off until years later. But God sees the pieces fitting perfectly into place with a perspective that we could never even comprehend. Our job is to simply obey Him in the moment. Take time in prayer this morning to ask God for the wisdom to clearly discern the leading of His Holy Spirit — and the strength to follow Him above all else!
