1 Samuel 16:7 ESV

But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”

Well now that football season is behind us, let’s talk about a different kind of underdog.  As we go through scripture, it’s hard to find someone who defied the odds the way David did.  His own father didn’t even include him among his brothers when Samuel came to find the one chosen by God to be king.

God reminded Samuel before his search that He can qualify anyone who He calls to lead, even if they don’t seem to fit the mold.  However, that doesn’t mean that King David led in weakness.  There were powerful gifts and talents already placed inside of him that God developed over time.  David endured trials and hardships — and definitely made his share of mistakes.  But he came through each one stronger, continuing to mature as a leader and growing toward the level of excellence that God had planned for him all along.

You’ll only discover the power behind your gifts if you focus on using them as God intended.  Take some time to evaluate where God has placed your unique gifts and talents and how you can best utilize them to make an impact for His Kingdom!
