Weekly Meet-Up RESOURCES

DATE: Sunday, April 1, 2018 – EASTER

FERVENT CHURCH – Voorhees, NJ

Preached by Pastor Mike Rosado

EASTER: IN LIVING COLOR

MEETUP WEEK #1 Format: MEET-UP Questions

TODAY’S MAIN IDEA: The reason you go through the things you go through is to experience grace, much like the disciples experienced through the resurrection.

START THE CONVERSATION – QUESTIONS:

Describe your favorite meal or item to eat at Easter time?

Old School question: Describe your favorite color and why. Give some examples of your favorite colors.

BIBLE READING:

Please Read LUKE 23: 44 – 47 (ESV)

The Death of Jesus

44 It was now about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour, 45 while the sun’s light failed. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two.46 Then Jesus, calling out with a loud voice, said, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!” And having said this he breathed his last. 47 Now when the centurion saw what had taken place, he praised God, saying, “Certainly this man was innocent!”

What parts of the scripture passage stood out to you? What part is the most encouraging? What part is the most challenging?

EVENTS + EMOTIONS = EXPEREINCE

The right event, at the right moment, in order to have the right experience.

THE MEANING OF COLORS in the BIBLE:

Pastor Mike showed how God paints in beauty and that there is nothing accidental in scripture, including the mention and usage of colors. Interestingly, colors are associated with both positive and negative emotions. I have included each emotion in parenthesis after the color. As we look at the examples of colors throughout the scripture, and specifically the story of Jesus, we are encouraged to make a paradigm shift toward the positive emotion of each color.

 1.) GREEN (Health / Envy)

(Luke 23:26 – 31)

There is a difference between “something you have gone through” and “something you are currently living in.” When we remain in the problem, our perspective can be off. Can you think of an example of when you were still “living in it” and how it affected your perspective.

2.) PURPLE (Royalty / Pain)

(John 19:5 – 6 “Robe & Crown of Thorns)

3.) RED (Passion / Anger)

(Matthew 27:24 – 25 “Pilate delivers Jesus to be crucified”)

RED ZONE (ANGER): What puts you in your ‘Red Zone’? How do you react when you are in your ‘Red Zone’? How do you get out of your ‘Red Zone’?

4.) BLACK (Authority / Heaviness) & BLUE (Trust / Coldness)

(Genesis 3:15)

Pastor Mike taught, “There is NO victory devoid of pain.” Can you give an example from your life that demonstrates this concept?

5.) WHITE (Grace)

(Matthew 28:1 – 7 “The Resurrection”)

“The reason you go through the things you go through is to experience GRACE.”

ACTION ITEMS:

As people of faith, we continue to wrestle with questions like the meaning of life and better understand why we have gone through some of the challenges in life, Pastor Mike points to experiencing God’s grace. Come up with a specific example of how you experienced God’s grace in your life through enduring challenges and wrestling with the meaning of life, and share the details of this experience and about God’s Grace with another person who is not familiar with this experience in your life.
