FERVENT CHURCH – Voorhees, NJ

Preached by Pastor Mike Rosado

MEETUP WEEK Format: “UP” Questions

I. TODAY’S MAIN IDEA: “You will not be satisfied in your blessing until you function under your true identity.”

II. START THE CONVERSATION – QUESTIONS:

  1. Did you have a nickname growing up?
  2. How did that affect you?

III. BIBLE READING:

Please Read GENESIS 25:21-28‬, ‭32:22-32 (ESV)

What parts of the scripture passage stood out to you?

What part is the most encouraging?   What part is the most challenging?

IV. SERMON REFLECTIONS ON THE PASSAGE:

Jacob means: “supplanter” while Israel means: “having power with God.”

Which name would you rather have?

  • Identify the LABELS in your life that don’t reflect your true identity. What are they? How’d they affected you?   (Enemies of True Identity: Curses, Comparisons, and Changes in life)
  • Identify what you are WILLING TO DO to discover your identity.                                                                          (Shedding your old identity is healthy and how God grows you.)
  • Identify the COST YOU MUST PAY when it comes to your true identity.                                                                         (Pain and blessing can co-exist.)

V. APPLICATION POINT: What labels do you have that aren’t of God?

  1. How has that affected you?
  2. What truths about your identity do you need to be reminded of?
