Psalm 23:4 ESV

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me

Ever since I was old enough to ride them, I’ve been hooked on roller coasters.  I once rode a total of 20 times in one day at a nearly empty amusement park (I definitely wouldn’t recommend it). The adrenaline rush from the high speed is almost addictive and there’s actually a physical letdown at the end of the ride.

It’s easy to allow certain moments to define our relationship with God.  We “feel” His presence during the chorus of a favorite worship song on a Sunday morning or when the preacher hits a powerful point in his sermon — then the rest of our week seems like a letdown in comparison.  But the truth is God is every bit as present in our lowest, most challenging times.

If we’re living for the emotional highs, we’ll never be able to build steady, mature relationships as adult children of God.  God’s presence never leaves us — at times we simply become less aware of it.  Take some time in prayer today to thank Him for always being near to you regardless of your circumstances.
