Matthew 11:28-30 ESV

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Back when I was washing dishes as a part-time job, I remember being completely exhausted at the end of every work day.  It’s not that I was physically tired, but mentally I was ready to check out almost as soon as I walked in the door.  The funny thing is now that I’ve found what I’m passionate about doing, I can easily work for twice as long and still have the energy to keep going.

If we’re working outside of God’s will or timing, at the end of the day we’ll end up exhausted and without true fulfillment regardless of what we’ve accomplished.  Jesus tells us to come to Him so He can both lighten our burden and guide us in everything we do.

There are times when He’ll simply help us to continue on the path we’re on and others when He’ll change our course altogether.  In both circumstances, His strength and guidance allow us to keep moving forward and in the right direction.  Instead of crashing from our own self-induced exhaustion, our periods of rest become perfectly planned and led by God when we seek His will above all else!
